August Gardening Advice
Gardening Advice for August
August is a time for reaping the benefits of all the hard work of previous months, whether it’s sitting in the flower garden and rejoicing in the bees and butterflies that visit or perhaps gathering crops in the fruit and vegetable garden.
It’s good to remind ourselves that gardening is one of the best forms of exercise for people of all ages and backgrounds and for healthy lifestyles there can be nothing better than growing and eating your own fruit and vegetables.
The nights are now lengthening noticeably and, although watering may be necessary during spells of dry weather, heavy dews will help to replace plant transpiration.
Many people take a holiday this month and it is advisable to ask neighbours to water pots, hanging baskets and newly planted subjects, and also to keep an eye on the greenhouse and house plants.
