An exciting opportunity to spend an enjoyable and informative day at Ashwood Nurseries for a pre-booked combined garden and hellebore tour: a chance to visit John’s Garden in the company of one of the Ashwood team as well as a ‘behind the scenes’ look in our Hellebore Production House.

*please note that, as the hellebore season progresses, the choice available for sale in the Hellebore Production House will become a little more limited. If you have special requests we will do our best to assist you on the day. There will still be plenty to see and learn.

The Garden Tour (10.30am)

A tantalising glimpse through the borders

An escorted tour of John’s Garden, the wonderful eight acre private garden created by nursery owner John Massey VMH. Informal borders, island beds and woodland dells are set against the beautiful backdrop of the Staffordshire and Worcestershire Canal.

Regarded as one of the finest private small gardens in the UK, this is a garden that is truly spectacular in Winter. A magnificent collection of trees, shrubs and conifers gives strong structure as well providing the perfect canopy for the hellebores, snowdrops, winter aconites and cyclamen that carpet the ground.

After the garden tour, there’s plenty of time to have a delicious hot meal or drink in our warm and welcoming Tea Room, as well as to visit our Garden Shop, Gift Shop, Greenhouses and Plant Sales Areas. Read more

The Hellebore Tour  (2pm)

Ashwood hellebores will take centre stage

This is a guided tour that will take you ‘behind the scenes’ in our Hellebore Production House where you will discover the fascinating story behind our award-winning hellebores.

On this short tour you will learn how we grow them and see our beautiful hellebore stock plants from which we collect our seed….they are quite simply stunning and demonstrate perfectly why our world-famous hellebores are regarded as some of the finest ever produced.

At the end of your hellebore tour, there will be the opportunity to browse in the Hellebore Production House and to purchase specially selected hellebore plants that are exclusive to the tour (subject to availability), as well as a hand-picked selection of plants for Winter interest.

Additional information:

• Please meet in the Plant Sales House at 10.20am.
• A member of the Ashwood team will meet you (your details will be on our guest list).
• We advise wearing of appropriate outdoor clothing and footwear.
• Please note: depending on weather conditions on the day, the tours may take place in reverse order (i.e. the hellebore tour in the morning and the garden tour in the afternoon).
