Ashwood wins a Gold Medal at RHS London Plant Fair

Posted on Saturday 21st February 2015

We are delighted to announce that Ashwood’s exhibit of hepaticas at the RHS London Plant Fair has been awarded a prestigious Gold Medal. Our display of hepaticas in a natural setting of early spring-flowering plants wowed the judges and is certainly attracting a lot of interest from visitors. Hepaticas are set against a lovely backdrop of hellebores, cyclamen and white camellia, with ourbeautiful new hepatica interspecies hybrids causing quite a stir. Helleborus x hybridus (Ashwood Garden Hybrids) Sunset, Sunrise and Daybreak shades, Helleborus x belcheri ‘Pink Ice’ and Helleborus ‘Harvington Rebekah’ have also created much interest.

Team Ashwood: well done!

Team Ashwood: well done!

Well done to Team Ashwood whose hard work and creative flair have produced a stunning exhibit and a well-deserved Gold Medal. We are all very proud of our record of 51 RHS Gold Medals awarded for a variety of plant specialities, including lewisias, hydrangeas (both Chelsea Golds!), hellebores, cyclamen, salvias and hepaticas.

Ashwood is one of only a few nurseries in the UK specialising in hepaticas and is unique in that it is the only UK nursery that supplies fresh hepatica seed. Nursery owner John Massey VMH is widely regarded as being one of the UK’s leading experts on hepaticas: he has his own private plant collection and has travelled to China, Japan, Korea, Kyrgysztan, North America and Europe to see them in the wild.

If you would like the opportunity to see the wonderful plants from John’s private collection as well as to purchase young hepatica plants (including rare or ‘hard to find’ varieties and some exciting new inter-species hybrids from John’s breeding programme), then the Plant Fair is not to be missed.

Held in the RHS Horticultural Halls, Central London on Friday and Saturday February 20th and 21st, this is the first in the season of the RHS London Shows and it’s always a very special gardening event.

The RHS Lawrence Hall is home to a wealth of early spring plants presented by some of the UK’s top nurserymen and growers, with plenty of advice and inspiration on offer as well as many choice plants for sale.
