Auriculas are a long-established speciality at Ashwood. These beautiful plants are one of the simple pleasures of the Spring garden and their jewel-like beauty, exquisite forms and subtle fragrance never fail to captivate.
Primula auricula Ashwood ‘Alpine’ Strain has been developed here at Ashwood as a result of careful hand pollination and selection. ‘Alpine’ auriculas have blooms of intensely rich colour, wonderful shading and delightful fragrance, produced from mid-March to April. Available as flowering-sized plants, plug plants or seeds, they are suitable for both garden and cold greenhouse cultivation.
Named varieties of ‘Alpine’ auriculas and 'Double' auriculas, raised from cuttings, are offered for sale as flowering-sized plants. These are suitable for sheltered gardens or cold greenhouse cultivation.
Named varieties of ‘Show’ auriculas have powdery ‘meal’ or ‘farina’ on the flowers and foliage and their various forms includes ‘selfs’, ‘edged’, ‘stripes’ and ‘fancies’. We offer an excellent range of flowering-sized plants grown from cuttings. These auriculas will grow outside in a sheltered position but heavy rain and wind will wash away the meal on the flowers and foliage. They will always perform best in the protected environment of a cold greenhouse.
If you are able to visit us from mid-March to the end of April we are sure you'll enjoy browsing through our Alpine Sales area where, as well as a fine selection of Primula auricula, there are many other small treasures to be discovered.
